Unifor ACL Membership Bulletin July 24, 2014

With yesterday’s announcement that Bell Canada Enterprises will be increasing their ownership of Bell Aliant from 44% to 100% came many questions and very few answers. Many of you would have joined the webcast hosted by Karen Sheriff yesterday to get an overview of what is transpiring for the company.

The Unifor ACL Executive joined Fred Crooks on a call yesterday shortly after the announcement to discuss the implications this announcement may have on bargaining. As you know, our collective agreement expires on Dec 31, 2014 and we are currently negotiating a new agreement through the Common Interest Forum (CIF). Fred recapped and highlighted the information given in Karen Sheriff’s original communication and explained that the acquisition must receive shareholder approval.

The Unifor Executive will continue to negotiate with the company while staying on track with our agenda. Our next scheduled dates to meet are Aug 25 – 29, 2014. There is still more detail and clarification that is required and Fred has committed to share with us as much information as he can other than that which he is legally bound to keep confidential.
